This is a Manager-in-Training position with a temporary annual salary of $55,000–$60,000 during the training period. Upon successful completion of training and placement into a permanent management role, compensation will increase to reflect the responsibilities and salary of the assigned position.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Custodial Manager in Training (MIT) is a developmental leadership role designed to prepare high-potential candidates for full managerial responsibility within a custodial or facilities environment. The MIT learns all aspects of custodial operations, staff supervision, safety compliance, workflow management, customer service, and quality assurance. This role combines hands-on work with structured leadership training to build operational excellence and readiness for promotion.

The MIT is expected to model professionalism, reliability, and strong work habits while developing the skills required to lead teams, manage schedules, uphold standards, and deliver exceptional service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Training & Development

  • Learn all daily custodial operations, including cleaning procedures, equipment use, chemical handling, and safety protocols.
  • Shadow supervisors and managers to understand workflow planning, task delegation, and quality control.
  • Participate in structured leadership training modules (communication, coaching, conflict resolution, performance management).
  • Demonstrate readiness to assume supervisory responsibilities.

Team Leadership & Support

  • Assist with training new custodial staff on proper techniques, safety, and expectations.
  • Support team members with questions, tools, materials, and problem-solving.
  • Learn how to conduct team huddles, shift briefings, and daily check-ins.
  • Model positive attitude, professionalism, and strong work ethic.

Quality Assurance

  • Perform inspections of assigned areas to ensure compliance with cleaning standards.
  • Document deficiencies and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Learn how to use inspection tools, checklists, and digital reporting systems.

Customer Service

  • Interact professionally with clients, building staff, administrators, and visitors.
  • Respond to service requests promptly and courteously.
  • Learn how to manage expectations and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Learn how to conduct safety training, enforce PPE requirements, and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Report incidents, hazards, and near misses immediately.

Administrative & Managerial Readiness

  • Learn scheduling, timekeeping, and labor management processes.
  • Assist with inventory control, supply ordering, and equipment maintenance.
  • Learn how to complete daily logs, reports, and performance documentation.
  • Prepare to assume full managerial responsibilities upon successful completion of training.

Upon successful completion of the Custodial Manager in Training (MIT) program, the candidate must be willing and able to relocate to an assigned site, district, or region based on organizational needs. Geographic placement will be determined by operational demand, and relocation is a condition of advancement into the Manager role.
